# Cigna (and Evernorth)

> Cigna profile: Evernorth behavioral and pharmacy carve-outs, provider portal, and the self-funded consideration.

**Cigna** operates commercial health insurance alongside **Evernorth**, its health services arm covering pharmacy benefit management and behavioral health. The behavioral carve-out is the operational fact most often missed.

**Payer content ages fastest of anything on this site.** Portals move, forms change, payer IDs get reassigned, and **timely filing limits are contract-specific regardless of what any table says**. Treat this page as orientation; the payer's own current documentation and **your executed contract** are authoritative. **Checked August 2026.**

## Plan types on the card

Cigna Open Access Plus, LocalPlus, HMO and network products, and Medicare Advantage. Cigna carries a substantial **self-funded ASO** book, particularly among large employers.

## Enrollment and credentialing

Start at **[cignaforhcp.cigna.com](https://cignaforhcp.cigna.com/)**. Credentialing generally pulls from CAQH.

## EDI, ERA, and EFT

Standard three-part enrollment through your clearinghouse and Cigna's enrollment process.

## Appeals

Reconsideration then appeal; the process differs by plan type.

## Quirks worth knowing

* 🧠 **Behavioral health is administered through Evernorth.** Contracting with Cigna medical does not put you in the behavioral network. This requires separate contracting and credentialing, and it is a frequent surprise for behavioral health groups. See [Behavioral health](/concepts/industries/behavioral-health).
* **Self-funded volume is high** among large employers — ERISA analysis applies to much of the book
* Network naming varies by product; confirm which network your contract covers
